Terminalia appa leaves are used in managing both diabetes mellitus and its compliions in Southwest Nigeria. However, its inhibitory activity on enzymes implied in diabetes is not very clear. This study investigated the in vitro inhibitory properties and mode of inhibition of T. appa leaf extracts on enzymes associated with diabetes.
· The obtained fractions were evaluated for their antioxidant capacity and their antilipase activity using 2,2diphenyl1picrylhydrazyl and porcine pancreatic lipase inhibitory tests, respectively. Antimicrobial activity of the obtained fractions was evaluated using broth microdilution assay against several American Type Culture Collection bacterial and fungal strains and MethicillinResistant ...

Notably, Faouzi et al found differences in the kinetics of STAT3 activation in ARC and VMH/DMH by peripheral vs leptin, with leptin having a more immediate panactivating effect. Hence, while administration of leptin is a reductionist approach to determine central leptin action, the results of such studies may not necessarily translate to the central effects caused by ...

lipase activity. enzyme treatment for both unknown sam? ples and QC materials was eliminated. The urine and serum samples (1 mL) were spiked with 13C4labeled internal standards and MeUmbglu (to evaluate the completion of the hydrolysis), and the phthalate metabolites were extracted from the matrix by solidphase extraction. The final eluate ...

· Cellular responses to the orexin receptor activity are highly diverse. The receptors couple to at least three families of heterotrimeric G proteins and other proteins that ultimately regulate entities such as phospholipases and kinases, which impact on neuronal excitation, synaptic plasticity, and cell death. This article is a 10year update of my previous review on the physiology of the ...
donic acid (AA) through the action of the enzyme DAG lipase. AA, which can also be synthesized by phospholipase A2 (PLA2), ... Faouzi et al. also showed that Orai3 plays an important role in cell cycle regulation of ER+ breast cancer cells but not normal breast epithelial cells. Using MCF7 and T47D (another ER + breast cancer cell line) cells, they reported that Orai3 knockdown results in ...

A new lipolytic strain of Bacillus sp. was isolated from oil contaminated soil sample. On measurement of biochemical parameters and 16S rDNA sequence information the strain was identified as Bacillus pumilus RK31 (NCBI accession no GQ463238). The lipase purifiion steps involved, 60% ammonium sulphate saturation, gel filtration chromatography using Sephadex G200 and ion exchange ...
· Nigella sativa (NS) is a wellknown plant for its various benefits and multiuse in traditional medicine. This study is aimed at investigating the chemical composition of the different NS fractions by using GCMS for the esterified fatty acids or HPLCUV for organic fraction and at evaluating the inhibitory effect on pancreatic αamylase (in vitro, in vivo) and intestinal glucose absorption.
· The activity of POMC neurons is inhibited by the activity of AgRP neurons (Cone 2005, Tong et al. 2008). Furthermore, a population of neurons in ARC is in direct contact with the circulation and shows higher sensitivity to circulating leptin than neurons behind the BBB in the hypothalamus (Faouzi et al. 2007). This study showed that the plasma ...

Thymoquinone alleviated serum lipase, amylase, capase1, and MPO activity as well as proinflammatory cytokines (IL1beta and IL18) in rats receiving ethanol and a highfat diet. An optimum protective effect was obtained with 100 mg/kg of thymoquinone . Hepatic fibrosis was prevented by oral gavage of thymoquinone (20 mg/kg or 40 mg/kg) through the regulation of phosphorylation of ...

· A lipolytic activity was loed in the sardine digestive glands (pyloric caeca), from which a sardine digestive lipase (SaDL) was purified. Pure SaDL has a molecular mass of 43 kDa as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis. The enzyme was found to be more active on shortchain triacylglycerols than on longchain ones. SaDL does not present the ...
